A : → Thanks a lot for your info. We will be visiting the centre suggested.Just one more question please. Is there no tax (for us) whether we post our products by air or by sea? Also how can we find out how much our customers (US / UK) will need to pay (any recommended sites) if the value exceeds the min. level (we also want to know the min. level for each country if possible)? Thanks again.

A : → Thanks a lot! We will be visiting the centre you suggested. Just one more point on export tax. Is it correct that there will be no tax for exports by air and also by sea? Thanks!

A : → There is no export tax for post by air or sea. The tariff schedules of US and UK will provide relevent duty rates levied on the imported items, and permitted minimum value, if any, of imports sent by post. The TDC Business InfoCentre has such information available for perusal.

A : → Thanks a lot Moderator. This is a useful site. It gives very good information indeed.

A : → I read the previous message on exporting Jewelry to UK. However,I would like to further clarify when exporting goods to the EU countries, would the importers or the customers be responsible for the import taxes, customer clearing fees and the VAT taxes? I appreciate very much in advance for your great help.

A : → There is no specific rule for payment of import tax, customs clearing fees and the VAT by either importer or the exporter. The terms of payment are always negotiable between the two parties. However there are common payment methods in international trade that are varied in the risk levels for either importer or exporter. For details please click here .

A : → Hi, I read the previous messages and I would like to know if theFORM A is still valid after January 1st 2005 for jewelry goods (everykind) with origin China, or Hong Kong and destination European Union. Thanks

A : → The Generalized Schemes of Preference (GSP) from US and EU for jewellery exports originated from Hong Kong are not available. The EU GSP enjoyed by China origin jewellery will also be removed from 1 January 2005. Hence Form A Certificate of Origin for these GSP's will not be valid to claim duty preferences.

A : → I would like to reply to Jojo's questions regarding theimportation of jewerly to UK. Yes, the UK importer will need to pay the import tax, clearance fee (pound;50-70) and VAT 17.5%. Usually the agent (shipping forwarder or clearance agent) will require the importer to settle all these payment before clearing the goods.

A : → Thanks John for your information.

Q : → We design and export jewelry products. Appreciate if you could help answer the following 2 questions -1. Is there any contact info of overseas retailers (esp. US and Europe) who may be interested in buying HK jewelry products? Any FREE info?2. If we post our products to overseas customers say by air, would we need to pay any tax? Would the customer need to pay tax? Does it depend on the value of content, or the nature of the delivery (eg. sample vs merchandise)? Thanks alot for your help.

A : → The TDC Business InfoCentre has a large collection of trade directories in both printed and electronic editions, listing business contacts world wide, including of course the European and US markets. Information are avaiblable for free perusal and photo copy charges are levied at $1-3 per copy. Please visit the Centre in person and ask for the related information and TDC staff will only be too pleased to assist. Furthermore, the TDC website provides business contacts of various industries and markets for viewing and retrieval. You may wish to make a registration for the purpose. There is no tax involved in Hong Kong for exports by post. But you have to lodge a trade declaration and the customers at most of the recipient countries with have to pay import duties levied on the value of the products.
