A : → We came to know there is footwear quota for china made shoes to EU. What about Malaysian made footwear to USA and EU? Can somebody give details.

A : → The EU currently imposes quotas on three categories of non-textile products originating from the Chinese mainland, including certain footwear, porcelain and ceramic tableware/kitchenware. But the EU is in the process of liberalising such quotas, aiming at a complete liberalisation by 2005. There are no quota restrictions on footwear made in Malaysia for exports to the USA and EU.

A : → Is quota system for footwear abolished by Jan 1st, 2005 for Chinamade shoes? So there is no restriction for China shoes. What are the duties imposed on footwear type of sandals, lady heel shoes?

A : → Yes the import quotas for certain footwear from China into the EU are scheduled to be removed by 2005. However the EU will likely launch an investigation against certain types of shoes imports from China with a view to ascertaining the degree of threats of such imports in the EU market. Details please refer to TDC Business Alert EU.
