A : → Japan has revised its Food Sanitation Law to prohibit the use of phthalates in certain toys, food containers and packages. According to the new regulations, any synthetic resin toys, which come into direct contact with the mouth of infants and young children, should not be made of polyvinyl chloride. In addition, any apparatus, container or package apparatus that should come into direct contact with fats/oils or oily foods should not be made of polyvinyl chloride. The new regulations will take effect on 1 August 2003.
Q : → We find that more and more European clients do not like PVC products (even made in non Phthalates PVC). Anyone with the same situation and how do you solve the problem?
A : → The EU has already adopted an emergency ban since 7 December 1999 on the use of phthalates in certain soft PVC toys and childcare articles in all countries of the European community.
