A : → Thank you for the reply LWS ConsultantsI would like to go into more detail, I have sent an email to the company about 3 months ago and I have basically stated that I would like to go ahead and order a sample but the company's interest has been both off and on. In the last few weeks they have been more helpful, except it's been about a week now and I have not got a reply since I wrote to them for ordering a sample. What I would like to know is, if you were to order a sample how would your letter to the company be written, the reason I ask is that I have not had any proper training in this line of work, what I basically want to do is try one product if this turns out to be a job that I enjoy then I would like to go ahead at some later stage and take a learning course in import/exports.At the moment I have written several emails, one email I sent was where I attached within the email my letterhead which I wrote, a little about my company, of course at this point I have not setup any compan

A : → Getting samples is a common process in the trading operation, if your company can provide supplier with contact details such as address, Tel, Fax, Email etc. Give them a clear picture of the business you are doing now, tell them why you are interested in their products, it could be the style, quality, price or functions which make you think that it will help you to gain good business in your market. Show them a business prospect by telling them how often you place your orders, at what quantity each order would be and when are you going to place your order. Try to avoid asking questions like what is the minimum quantity? How do I get a sample? What is your lowest price? Do you mine dealing with a new company? The supplier will lose their interest in you if they feel you are small or new in the business.Good Luck.

A : → Something that you should know is there are many people from Europe & states asking for samples for free or asking for it in a wholesale price. Most of the manufacturers are not interested if their products are very famous many buyers are interesting. Their staffs also do not want to deal with it or no extra time to prepare for you. As the procedure to send even a sample to overseas from China is quitecomplicated, it involves many export documents. Second, many factoriesare not located in Shanghai metro area. You ask for C.I.F price. They still need to pay for the F.O.B Charges (Pick up from factory and deliver to Bond warehouse near PVG airport), plus other charges pay to the handling party (express company or freight forwarders). That's why they are not so keen to arrange it. You need to find a partner in Shanghai or Hong Kong if you really want to develop your business or pay a visit to the factory yourself.

A : → hi, have you got the samples?i've been newly working in the trading field. i was hesitate to ask for samples at the very beginning, but not for now anymore!!I just tell them right away that i've seen their products at the trade show, and my customer is very interested and ask them to send me 2 sets of sample urgently by this week as customer will have product screening in 2 weeks time.at last, tell them to send by freight collect. or simply ring them after sending mail for your requst, should DO!!!all the best!!

A : → Did you get the samples? I am a towel exporter,if one client ask samples? I would like to send the sample, what I need is only the courier collect.

A : → Before doing import business from China, you should go there yourself to see with your own eyes which products they have and what prices they offer. Plane tickets are not that high anymore, I paid $750 dollars in January from Newark, NJ to Beijing. Always look for deals, sometimes it also goes much higher.Anyhow, go to China to the trade centers, or factories if you know here they are located and you will surprise to see which other products you may be interested with.I did that and was able to get over 50 business cards and catalogs. Three weeks ago, I contact them over the phone and told them that I am ready for a big order, just need some samples and price list before this. I had to pay for the samples through Western Union and opened an account with DHL International Trade, so they could drop my samples (it was a 7-Kg box) there, the shipping charges will appear on my account. I got my samples yesterday and ready to start taking orders.

Q : → I am starting an import/export business, at the moment I have found a product which I believe would sell well in my country, I believe therewill be a big market for this product. I would like to know what is the correct way to approach the company in order to get a sample, as I think I have gone at it in a slightly amateur way and may make a mess at it.

A : → You should not feel uncomfortable when you solicit samples from a company if you consider the product you have in mind has a big market in your home country. Just tell them there is great potential for the product, and show them some facts and figures it there are any. If the sample is expensive the manufacturer will normally charge you on cash basis, otherwise the samples will be provided free.
